Hunting moose in the north of Sweden, south of Dalarna. The regular dog handler with a specialist moose dog fell ill and the local hunting party asked if I could assist them finding the game. Thelma and Ray are regulars in driven hunt, but this time the grounds were vast, a lot of terrain to cover – the chance to find the right animal who would also pass a shooter would be quite slim. The dogs ran hard. Had to interrupt the hunt, we were called to track a wounded moose. The tracks led to the reeds and lake, we continued the search on the other shore. Finally found the wounded moose. Unfortunately it was a cow and now there was a calf by itself left behind. The priority shifted from hunting to finding the calf. Heli (Snaiper’s Himalaya, 15 months) found the lonely calf, but it passed two shooters without them getting a good shot. Continued next day and once again, Heli found the calf and bayed it to a shooter. Well done by the young dog.
